The Role of Raw Cotton in the Textile Industry
Raw cotton has been the backbone of the textile industry for centuries, playing an irreplaceable role in fabric production. As a natural fiber, cotton is derived from the cotton plant, specifically from the fluffy bolls found on the plant’s seeds. After harvesting, cotton undergoes several key processes before it is transformed into fabric.
- Harvesting and Ginning: The first step in the cotton production cycle is harvesting. Depending on the region, cotton is harvested either manually or mechanically. Once harvested, it is sent to a gin, where the seeds are separated from the fibers in a process known as ginning.
